Mosquitoes like dirty socks
Scientists from Tanzania found out that the smell of stale socks attract mosquitoes more than other natural flavors of human. This discovery allowed professionals to develop a bait for malaria parasites with odor of dirty socks.
Dr Okumu Fredos has revealed that artificial smell attracts four times more mosquitoes than the natural flavors of people. He said, the traps will work good with traditional means such as mosquito nets and repellents, reports BBC.
Bait is to be used in traps placed in the streets, adds Comments.UA. Appealing mosquitoes, they will protect people's houses.
According to developers, such tactics will complement such measures as anti-malaria mosquito nets and sprays that repel insects, which will save more lives of Africans.
