Svyatoslav Vakarchuk financed the monument to Ivasyuk in Lviv

It is planned to unveil the monument to Volodymyr Ivasyuk in Lviv this year. The monument is to be erected in the Shevchenko Avenue. The monument is financed by Svyatoslav Vakarchuk. 

The approximate cost of the monument is about 200.000 Ukrainian Hryvnas. He personally announced about his will to become the sponsor of the monument a few years ago during the celebration of Lviv’s 750th anniversary which took part in the Opera House.

 18 May 1979 the body of the legendary composer was found hanged in the Bryukhovychi forest near Lviv. The funeral of Volodymyr Ivasyuk on 22 May 1979,  turned into the mass protest against the Soviet rule.
